Natural calamity or natural disaster is one of the biggest adverse events resulting on earth from nature. The major natural processes are the floods, the volcanic the eruptions, the earthquakes, the tsunamis, and a few more geologic processes which changes the geo demographic scenario of affected places. The total losses will depend on the capacity of the population to support or resist the disaster, and their resilience. The term natural has consequently been disputed because the events simply are not hazards or disasters without human involvement.
India is one of the country in the world where various kinds of environments are found and similarly, it is found various kinds of natural disasters take place in India. The major natural calamities in India are listed bellow, those are taken place in various parts of the country.
1. The Droughts:-
India becomes an other hot bed of the drought which is clearly primary stage of desertification. It is occurred for unprecedented soil erosion in common, large scale deforestation in nature and abrupt change in micro-climate of nature which caused of ground water fall. Normally western and middle southern parts of the country bear this calamity.
2. The Floods:-
During the monsoon season of the year brings heavy rail fall all most whole country and the heavy causes in the catchments of rivers and there is no dam, the rivers flood. Specially North and North Eastern India get affected by the flood.
3. The Landslide:-
The landslide or the landslip is another killing disaster for hilly areas around the country. Heavy rainfall and earthquake are the main causes of landslide. Specially affected states are Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Manipur, Nagaland, Mizoram, Sikkim, Uttarakhand,Tripura and Tamil Nadu and a few others.
4. The Earthquakes:-
The geographic stat says that the country belongs to Gondwana land-mass and it is comparatively younger than other geological formation of the earth. So it is unstable and indicated as earthquakes-prone-regions by the eaperts. There are large numbers of earthquakes were showed destruction in this region. The great mountain Himalayan Mountain range is belongs to comparatively the younger geological formations comparatively any other range such it is still undergoing morphological changes via nature or human activities. We can mention here about the construction of Tehri Dam, Uttarakhand. Experts already has warned about the great-threat to the Garhwal region of the Himalayas, Uttarakhand. Recent disaster is one of the part of earthquake and heavy rainfall.
5. The Cyclone:-
It is known to all that the low pressure in the atmosphere and frequent formation of whirls which forces to take place destruction king cyclone. Normally it is taken place frequently at the eastern coast of India Bay of Bengal, shore of Indian Ocean and coast Arabian Sea. The affected states are West Bengal, Orissa, Gujarat, Mharastra,Tamilnadu and Andra Pradesh.
Uttarakhand Tragedy 2013 rescue and rehabilitation:-
The heavy rainfall has caused devastating floods in various parts of North India where landslides becomes another Yamdut for the people, it has heavily showed the destruction in the states of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh.
The Disaster Mitigation and Management Centre has opened 150+ information and rescues centers in the affected areas. It is said officially from districts’ administration that there are 200 people are death and 5000 people are missing in this disaster. The rescues and relief activities are run by The Army, ITBP, Border Security Force (BSF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Public Works department and local administration along with various NGOs and NPOs. The Uttarakhand state Government has already declared three-day state mourning from June 20,21 and 22 in view of the Uttarakhand tragedy.
Protection and prevention:-
Prime Ministers’ and Chief Ministers’ relief fund has allowed several thousands crores Rupees to rescues and relief operations. Citizen also has the full authority to donate charity fund to face this calamites.
United Nations Organization has urges the concern states to take accordance and proper steps in natural calamities. The UNO urges the member states to follow the methods of International Red Cross, Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and international humanitarian law. These laws clearly states that all necessary measures to ensure the protection for the safety of persons with disabilities when they are in situations of risk whether natural or man made any where in the world.
